Sandstone Steps -KBSC/LSC community grant

The Queen Street Community Hall has some wonderful new sandstone steps. The steps have expanded the usable area of the community facility by providing safe access to the rear grounds. The sandstone steps are phase 1 of a larger project to provide an outdoor community space for workshops, markets, performances and other community activities. Additionally they have increased the aesthetic value of the grounds, and are in-keeping with heritage features of site.

The project was made possible thanks to a community grant from the Keppel Bay Sailing Club and Livingstone Shire Council. The project engaged with a Green Army Crew (youth employment scheme), and introduced the young people to a new trade (stone mason work); this included some hands on experience.

Everyone has been very positive about the steps; the quality of the stonemason's work is exceptional, and it has enthused the hall user group to continue to progress with the overall revitalisation and improvement of the outdoor community space.

Yeppoon Recreation Youth Club INC. is very grateful to LSC and KBSC for the grant, Bob Beasley for his quality workmanship and the Green Army youth workers for their assistance.
