Cap Coast aspiring pianists are invited to a special, one-off “Contemporary Piano Workshop” with accomplished musician and educator James Ferguson, on Saturday 27th of May at the Queen Street Community Hall, Yeppoon. The session, which starts at 2PM, will be a 90 minute hands-on, interactive and fun workshop, exploring aspects of contemporary piano/keyboard playing such as: improvising with scales and modes, left hand voicings and tools for composition.

Based in Melbourne, James Ferguson teaches piano and voice at St Joseph's College and provides private and Skype tuition to students all over Australia. James is completing a Master of Music at Melbourne Uni and performs regularly with a variety of bands. In addition to the workshop, James will be performing on the 27th of May at the Queen Street Community Hall, as part of Melbourne 5-piece rockin’ blues band 'Doc Halibut'. Gates open at 6PM, click here for more event details.

Workshop participants are asked to bring a portable keyboard, keyboard stand, stool and extension lead if possible. The cost of the workshop has been reduced to $20, thanks to funding from Livingstone Shire Council Cultural Development. Pianists of all skill levels are welcome to attend - from those with basic understanding of notes, chords to advanced players.
